Bet on the Cotillion Stakes
The Cotillion Stakes is a mile-and-a-sixteenth contest for three-year-old fillies held annually at Parx Racing in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. In recent years, the race has been held in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Derby in September to serve as a top prep race for the Breeders’ Cup Distaff. With Grade 1 status and a purse of $1 million, the race routinely attracts some of the top sophomore fillies in the country. The race was first run in 1969 and has produced numerous Eclipse Award winning champions such as Shuvee, Susan’s Girl and Havre de Grace.

2016 Cotillion Stakes Contenders
A star-studded cast of six will contest the 2016 Cotillion led by the looming presence of the undefeated champion Songbird who is 1/2 on the morning line. Songbird, a five-time grade 1 winner, has won all ten of her career starts and captured the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes last out at a mile and a quarter. The speedster will shorten up for the Cotillion, and figures to face her stiffest tests from either Carina Mia (5/1) or Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks winner Cathryn Sophia (5/2). Songbird repelled a strong bid from Carina Mia en route to defeating that rival by five lengths in the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks July 24. Cathryn Sophia may benefit from a trip over the local surface as the star easily galloped to a six-length win at Parx in the Princess of Sylmar Stakes September 3.

In 2011, Havre de Grace and Blind Luck renewed their rivalry for the third time that year in a thrilling edition of the race. The pair dueled through the stretch, finishing 9 ¾ lengths clear of the rest of the field with Havre de Grace finally defeating her rival by a neck. In doing so, the talented filly set a stakes record time of 1:40:93. The pair finished second and third in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff and the following year, Havre de Grace would go on to be Horse of the Year.
